Process of Hara Matar (Dried Green Peas/White Peas)
Fresh green peas/white peas are dried, processed and packed sealing in all the goodness and nutrients of the vegetable. The peas are grown under professional supervision to maintain a superior quality of the product. The entire process of growth, from planting the seeds to the growth of the pea plant, the plucking of the fresh green peas, and the process of drying them through  modern technologies. The moisture content, the weight and size of the peas are monitored during the growing process which ensures that the taste and flavor of the peas we use is maintained.

These peas are free of pesticides, rich in fibre, minerals, protein and vitamins. Superior packaging ensures that green peas retain its original properties, flavor, colour and nutritional value for a long duration. Dried green peas can be stored at home in an airtight container for a few months or in the refrigerator for a year. It is important to store these legumes in a moisture free area to give it a longer shelf time. . There is no added colour and the peas are polish free.

The high fibre content in dried green peas helps lower cholesterol and manages blood sugar levels. This legume has virtually no fat and is high in nutrition. It has certain antioxidants which help reduce the risk of health conditions like breast or prostate cancer. Dried green peas are good for the digestive system and heart conditions. Dried green peas should be soaked in water for several hours to soften them before cooking. This saves cooking time as well as fuel. When cooked they can be added to soups, salads, curries or even pureed and eaten as a side dish. They can be added to cooked rice to make a delicious pulao.  These can be soaked for a few hours, boiled and added to any dish to enhance its flavor.

Green Peas Recipes (2 Servings)
Ingredients
Dried Peas - 1 Cup
Oil - 1 tbsp
Tomato - 2 Large
Onion - 2 Large
Green Chilli - 2
Hing/Asafetida - A Pinch
Ginger-Garlic Paste - 1/2 tbsp
Coriander Seeds Powder - 1 tsp
Red Chilli Powder - 1 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt to Taste

To Roast & Grind
Fennel Seeds/Sanuf - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds/Jeera - 1 tsp
Peppercorn - 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek Seeds/Methi - 1/4 tsp
Coriander Seeds - 1 tsp
  Instructions
1. Wash and soak dried peas over night, rinse it 3 to 4 times in water.

2. Pressure cook it with water and salt for 3 whilstles.

3. Chop onion, tomato and chilli (finely chopped).

4. Roast all the ingredients until light brown for about a minute and grind into powder.

5. Heat oil and add hing, onion, chilli, ginger-garlic paste and saute until onion becomes soft.

6. Add red turmeric, chillli and coriander powders. (saute for a minute)

7. Add chopped tomato, stir and cook with lid until tomato gets mash.

8. Add powder masala. (saute for a minute)

7. Add boiled peas along with its water & salt. Cover it for 10-12 minutes or until oil starts to separate.

Serving suggestions – Serve it with rice. You can serve with any Indian flat bread like naan, paratha, roti.

Variation Tips
~ Add little coconut paste if you like gravy to be on thicker side.
~ You can add little tamarind water if preferred to have it South Indian Style

Green Peas Masala Recipe  
 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried green peas, soaked overnight
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 3 chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • ½ tsp jeera powder
  • ½ tsp methi powder
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tsp dhania powder
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

Method:

  • Lightly sauté the onions
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook till mushy
  • Cool and blend
  • In a pressure pan heat oil and add ginger garlic paste
  • Add the onion tomato mixture and cook
  • Add dry powders and cook further
  • Add water and soaked peas and pressure cook till done
  • Add garam masala powder and then garnish with coriander leaves
  • Serve hot with chapattis, parathas or rice
